My name is Cameron Durrant. I am a Republican candidate for Waupaca County Sheriff. I would like to take a few minutes to tell you a little bit about myself.
Waupaca County Native
I was born and raised in Waupaca, WI with my three brothers. My parents instilled strong work ethics upon us and I began working on a dairy farm when I was twelve years old. I have maintained a steady job since.
I graduated from Waupaca High School in 1996. In 1999, I obtained an Associates Degree in Criminal Justice from Fox Valley Technical College. In 2004, I obtained a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Criminal Justice Management from Concordia University of Wisconsin. Continuing my education, I obtained a Masters Degree in Homeland Security from American Public University in 2011. I attended the FBI Leadership course. I worked full time while attending school starting in my third semester at Fox Valley Technical College.
Law Enforcement Experience
I was hired part time for the Waupaca County Sheriff's Office in 1996 and was initially employed as a Reserve Officer and Water Patrol. In 1998, I began my full time career working in the jail as a Booking Officer. I held the position for two years until being promoted to a Transport Officer position. I was quickly promoted to a Patrol Officer position after a couple of months. I worked as a Patrol Officer for fifteen years. In 2016, I was promoted and currently serve as a Detective Sergeant.
Waupaca Sheriff's Dept. Extra Duties
I have served on several extra duties during my employment with the Waupaca County Sheriff's Office. I was on the Waupaca County Multi-jurisdictional Special Weapons and Tactics Team (SWAT) for seventeen years. My roles consisted of lead sniper, Assistant Team Leader (ATL), and maintaining equipment. I am currently a Certified Law Enforcement Instructor in Emergency Vehicle Operation and Control (EVOC), Tactical Response, and Evidence Collection. I previously held the position of a Field Training Officer (FTO).
I have written equipment grants for the SWAT team and Waupaca County Sheriff's Office obtaining nearly $25,000 in grants. The funds were utilized for night vision scopes, ballistic helmets, and a drone. I also procured a Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected Vehicle (MRAP) for the SWAT team from the U.S. Department of Defense 10-33 program.
My greatest accomplishment with the Waupaca County Sheriff's Office is the Shop with a Cop Program. Since 2014, I have organized, raised donations, and lead the Waupaca County Shop with a Cop Program. Each year we select children whose family may have a financial problem, medical issue, or experienced a death. The program has helped nearly 350 children and families in the eight years the program has been in existence. I encourage you to view the event pictures by visiting the Waupaca County Shop with a Cop Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/wcswac/.
I have dedicated twenty six years to serving the citizens of Waupaca County. I am proud to be a member of the Waupaca County Sheriff's Office. I look forward to serving you as the Sheriff.
